It is good to know!

Knowing & Understanding

Index

Knowing something is easy, but to understand it is a different matter.

Often, we jump to conclusions when, we have only heard part of the story, then our judgment will be clouded with "misunderstanding", followed by anger, unhappiness and sadness.

Why not input the whole story, understand and analyze it with your heart, then put yourself into other people's shoes before deriving to any conclusion.

This technique will help us tenfold to thread our way in our daily life and lead us to a right path of success.

** Why not? **

Learning

Index

Manfred said: Life is like a chicken ladder, full of chicken shit, the higher you climb up the ladder, the more slippery it gets. Suddenly you fall off the top to the messy bottom. Oh! Oh!

As long as you pick yourself up and do not give up! Just start all over again.

Well! This is life! No harm done!

Life Cycle

Index

Humans cannot avoid the cycles of being:-

Born, growing old, falling sick and finally facing death.

May Be

Index

An ancient Chinese story tells of a very poor but contented old man. One day his only horse ran away. The people in the village lamented, "Your horse has run off, too bad!" The man said, "Maybe" and smiled.

Some days later, his horse returned with two wild horses tagging along. The villagers rejoiced, "Now you have 3 horses, how lucky!" But the old man smiled as before and said, "Maybe".

The next day, his only son, while taming one of the wild horses, fell and broke his leg. The villagers said, "Oh no! Now your son will not be able to help you in the fields, how unfortunate for you"! Again, the old man smiled and said, "Maybe".

A few days later, the army came to the village, conscripting all able-bodied young men, and of course, they couldn't be bothered to cart along a man with a broken leg……….

Moral: The story teaches us that in life, balance is the great secret. Balance in our actions and balance in our views. Balance yields success and happiness in a world that is continually moving in circles from one extreme to another.

Middle Attitude

Index

Life has its Ups and Downs like a graph. No one will stay at the top or the bottom forever. "Middle Attitude" is the motto.

Take the tuning of a musical instrument as an example:

If the strings are too tight or loose, the sound will not be right. Ideal sound can only be achieved when the instrument is tuned to the right level.

**That is life!**

Monkey

Index

Everybody has an active, wild and uncontrollable "monkey" in their heart. As times go by, we will find ways to control it to become more respectful & mature.

** This is life! **

No Pain, No Gain

Index

Success is only ever the end result of study, hard work, worry and learning from all the unsuccessful experiences.

For sure, there is no such thing as a short cut in life.

Ordinary and Extraordinary

Index

All people have both ordinary and extraordinary characteristics.

Those who manifest their extraordinary characteristics such as scientists, artists or philosophers work to pass on their knowledge or creations to ordinary people in order they can realize their own extraordinary characteristics.

Ordinary and extraordinary people all live and work in the same world and each person should be able to find his/her talents from ordinary life.

Playing Chess

Index

Life is just like playing a game of chess.

Each move will certainly affect the whole situation, so one has to analyze, re-think the circumstances and reschedule the entire plan.

**In another word, nothing will stay the same forever.**

Similar Characteristic

Index

It is difficult to change someone to be exactly like our own character, unless two of "myself" are co-existing in this world. Is it possible?

The characteristics of individuals are entirely different, it is pointless to influence others to adapt to our likening, lifestyles, characters etc.

**Let it be!**

Step Back

Index

To step back is the best solution when one is in an emotional situation, such as anger, hate, jealousy, sadness etc.

From the moment of stepping back, one could see and feel differently:-

The sea is wider and the sky is higher.

Teaching & Scolding

Index

Teaching - The methods of teaching have to vary according to the individual's ability, since everybody has different levels of absorption on any new learning. Do not have high expectation when teaching others!

Scolding - Do not to be so hard when scolding others; you must take their feelings into consideration.

"Three Hearts" is not workable

Index

"Three Hearts" are referred to "Past heart, Present heart and Future heart".

"Heart" means thinking or moment.

Past Heart - How to define "Past"? Say a minute ago you walk into the house and make a cup of tea, when tea is done, the making tea moment is considered a "Past Moment"!

Present Heart - What is present? The moment you make tea is considered "Present", but once tea is ready, then the making tea moment is past. Where is the "Present"?

Future Heart - Things change all the time, how could we foresee future.

Conclusion:- Past is a past.... is a past, why have to worry or think back, no "Present" as such, and changeable situation alter the future!

** Well! Take it easy! **

The Two 'Gs' - to GET and to GIVE

Index

When you are a baby you cry to Get food; when you are a school child you yearn for knowledge and Get education.

When you leave school you need to earn a living and Get a job. Then you have to Give your knowledge and expertise to survive; as life goes on you learn how to Give more to other people or the charity.

By the end of your life you have to Give all you have accumulated from Getting because you cannot carry your belongings and wealth into the next life.

To Know Someone

Index

To know someone is not easy,

but to understand someone is even harder.

Yu Kung

Index

There was an old man called Yu Gong in China, who had two big mountains in front of his family home, which caused his family great inconvenience. One day he gathered his family and said: "The two mountains facing our home are an inconvenience to us, so let us move them!" His children and grandchildren all agreed except his wife. She said: "You are old and not able to move a single stone, how could you move these two mountains?"

The next day, Yu Gong led his family to these mountains. Undaunted by the hardships and difficulties, they worked on the mountains every day. One day, a wise old man called Zhi Sou, upon seeing them attempting to remove the mountains was bemused, and said to Yu Gong: "You are old and you cannot even pluck the grass on the mountain top, how do you expect to move the mountains?" Yu Gong replied: "Yes, I am old and I will soon be dead, but I have children, and when my children are dead, there are still my grandchildren. My family members will get larger and larger, the mountain will get smaller and smaller. With such determination, surely it is possible to move the mountains!"

Moral: Many tasks appear unachievable but with the right determination anything can be achieved. Additionally, as the saying goes, "A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step".
